Girl Charlee UK & Europe: Knitriffic Blogs (Portia Lawrie/Makery) plus New Fabrics!

This month we are proud to feature the wonderful Portia Lawrie and her blog Makery: Random Acts of Creativity
Portia started blogging in 2009 under the moniker Miss P but as the site grew, 'Miss P' (Portia says the name started to sound like a dodgy dominatrix!) gave way to 'Makery' (n. the use of materials to create something, the art, practice, or skill of making stuff) and she hasn't looked back since, with the blog tripling in readers in the past year alone.  Now operating from 'shedquarters' (her beautiful summerhouse/craft room) in Essex, Portia spends her spare time (when not looking after her partner and children) sewing, blogging, listening to Spotify and drinking way too much coffee!

The blog has so many amazing tutorials, useful hints and tips and the very popular Refashioners Challenge.  As if that wasn't enough, she also writes for Simply Sewing magazine, featuring on many of their covers.

Her blog concentrates on sewing but also encompasses Home & Garden, Jewellery & Accessories, and Yarn Crafts, so there is something for everyone.  Contrary to popular belief, Portia's design aesthetic is not confined to neutrals, muted tones and stripes and she says this year we will hopefully see a little more colour in her wardrobe.

Where Portia really excels is in her Refashion blogs and Patternless and Self Drafted makes.  Here you can see just how talented and imaginative she is. Girl Charlee are lucky to have had our fabrics featured in several of these blogs (click a picture to take you directly to each project/fabric) -

Portia is also the genius behind the "Refashioners Challenge".  Started in 2011, the challenge involves Portia & other amazing bloggers receiving a mystery package which they have to refashion into something new and share their creations (like the men's shirt below into a beautiful Kimono top).  There is also a community element with the chance for readers to win an amazing prize for their refashioners challenge.  Keep an eye out for details of Refashioners 2016!
If you haven't already visited Makery make sure you check it out, her blog is funny, informative, creative and great for sewers of any level.  We may even see some Portia Lawrie patterns in the future!
